Developmental Editing
In the role of Developmental Editor I guide an author in conceiving the topic, planning the overall structure, and developing an outline, and support the author in their writing, chapter by chapter.
Developmental Editors provide specific suggestions about the core intentions and goals of the book, the underlying premise, the polish, narrative voice, pacing, style, language; that is, the literary art and key arguments of the book.
Developmental editors do not correct spelling and grammar, or compile the index. These are the jobs of a copy-editor/proofreader and indexer, who work much later in the writing/publishing process. [I also provide these services, if required].
