Ghostwriter
Ghostwriters are hired to write fiction or non-fiction in the style of an existing author, often as a way of increasing the number of books that can be published by that author. The process for determining what you need to be written, and undertaking the writing is:
- Initial briefing by phone, email, Skype or face-to-face, if appropriate;
- Additional research, if needed;
- Writing and submission of the first draft;
- Further discussion/s;
- Evaluation and integration of up to two sets of revisions – usually one is enough;
- Submission of the final draft.
Developmental editor
A developmental editor guides an author in conceiving the topic, planning the overall structure, and developing an outline, and supports the author in their writing, chapter by chapter.
Developmental editors offer specific suggestions about the core intentions and goals of the book, the underlying premise, the polish, narrative voice, pacing, style, language; that is, the literary art and key arguments of the book.
Developmental editors do not correct spelling and grammar, or compile the index. These are the jobs of a copy-editor/proofreader and indexer, who work much later in the writing/publishing process. We also provide these services, if required.
Irrespective of when the developmental editor is brought into a writing project, the author retains control over the document and is responsible for providing the content.
